The Leadership Council was formed in 2013 as an opportunity for young professionals to expand their networks and get more involved in the Evans Scholars Program as emerging business and civic leaders.
Participants serve as ambassadors for the organization and help advance the WGA’s mission through initiatives including mentoring current Scholars and hosting an annual fundraising event. The group will help develop future volunteer leaders for the Evans Scholars Foundation.
Mary Moran, a Marquette Evans Scholars Alum and current Leadership Council President, leads the young and energized group. "Membership engagement will be the main focus of the executive board," Moran says. "Our predecessors have laid a solid foundation, and now it is up to us to grow and strengthen our programs and events by encouraging our members and presenting them with leadership opportunities. We're the Leadership Council — every member is a leader."
There are more than 125 members, both Alumni and non-Alumni, who are between the ages of 25-40. Members are expected to donate to WGA at the hole-in-one level and participate in one of several committees. Current council projects include organizing a mentoring program for Evans Scholars and hosting the annual Birdie Ball, which has raised more than $100,000 net over the last three years.
