A marketing professional with 17 years of experience, Mary Burns spent her first career in account management working for some of the premier agency and communication firms including J. Walter Thompson, DDB Chicago and the Leo Burnett Company managing both business-to‐business and consumer accounts. Category experience includes: automotive (Acura), hospitality (Hyatt Hotels & Resorts), food (Boston Chicken; Boston Market) and telecommunications and technology (AT&T, US WEST, Qwest and EarthLink). Her marketing experience also includes client-side marketing roles for Hyatt Hotels and AT&T.
From 2007 through 2010, Burns served as the Assistant Dean/Managing Director of Executive Education at Loyola University Chicago overseeing professional education and training programs for individuals and corporations in need of leadership, strategic planning, creating high performance teams and general management programs. Burns was an adjunct professor at Loyola from 2004-2010 where she taught Marketing and Integrated Marketing Communications in the Graduate School of Business and the MBA for Executives programs.
In 2007, Burns self-published, Entitled to What? A Reality Check for the Generation Entering Corporate America. From 2011-2013, she worked as a professional development coach for Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), a New York‐based nonprofit serving high achieving diversity students pursuing MBA degrees at the top 10 business schools in the U.S. She also works as career coach for the part-time MBA program at the Kellogg School of Management.
