Scholar Responsibilities

Achieving success

The Evans Scholarship is both a generous award and a serious responsibility. All recipients are expected to live up to the high standards and tradition of excellence for which the program is well-known. These four areas of expectation are requirements for all Evans Scholars.

Scholarship

The primary obligation of an Evans Scholar is academic success. In order for the academic experience to be most meaningful, Evans Scholars must exert themselves to achieve the greatest possible level of academic success. Excellence in the classroom has been a long-standing tradition in the Evans Scholars Program, and it falls upon each individual Evans Scholar to contribute his/her efforts to upholding that tradition. Evans Scholars are expected to achieve above a 3.0 GPA. The Evans Scholars program average is a 3.25 GPA, and the absolute minimum to stay in good standing is a 2.5 GPA.

Leadership

Evans Scholars are expected to become actively involved in Chapter affairs and to participate in campus or community activities outside the Chapter. Leadership and organizational skills are generally strengthened through active involvement in extracurricular activities.

Chapter living

The merits of the Evans Scholarship House program are found in the experience of group living. Every Evans Scholar must learn to live and work with the other members of the Chapter. At all times, Chapter members are required to treat one another with respect. In addition, Evans Scholarship Houses are substance free.

House maintenance

Every Evans Scholar shares responsibility for the upkeep of the Scholarship House. All Evans Scholars are expected to perform certain duties essential to maintaining the cleanliness of the house, although New Scholars have greater requirements for house maintenance. WGA Directors often visit and members of the Housing Committee make periodic inspections of each Evans Scholarship House. All areas of the house are inspected and assessed for their cleanliness, appearance and safety.
