"Fairway to the Future: The Drive to 1,000 Scholars"
Caddies from coast to coast continue to apply for the Evans Scholarship in record numbers as the ever-rising costs of college squeeze families of modest means, some struggling to simply make ends meet.
In keeping with its 83-year tradition of sending caddies to college, the Western Golf Association remains committed to ensuring none of these deserving and dynamic young people are left behind. To that end, the Western Golf Association is again seeking major gifts to the Evans Scholars Foundation through the 2014 Match Play Challenge campaign. Now in its fourth year, the campaign offers matching funds for Par Club operating gifts of $2,500 and greater.
This year’s campaign, titled “Fairway to the Future: The Drive to 1,000 Scholars” seeks to see all major gifts matched through of a pool of $3 million contributed by 60 or more Match Play Partners. Each partner will be asked to pledge $50,000 or more, and their generosity will be crucial in helping the Evans Scholars Foundation realize growth plans that include sending annually 1,000 caddies to college by 2020.
Since the launch of the Match Play Challenge in 2011, the campaign has been the most successful of its kind in the history of the Evans Scholars Foundation. That success has allowed the Program to expand its geographic footprint from coast to coast and begin increasing the number of Scholars in school each year at a time when scholarship applications are at an all-time high.
This year’s Match Play Challenge comes at a time when the Evans Scholars Foundation is looking to expand its geographic footprint from coast to coast and increase the number of Evans Scholars in school from 840 in 2014 to the goal of 1,000.
